PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To directly clone a new DNA containing a region encoding a protein from a cDNA library derived from whole brain of human adult and whole brain of human fetus and determine these base sequences and further identify these functions.

SOLUTION: The DNA comprises a base sequence encoding (a) a polypeptide composed of the same or the substantially same amino acid sequence as a specific amino acid sequence or (b) a polypeptide, in which parts of amino acids are lost, substituted or added in the specific amino acid sequence, having the substantially same biological activity as the functions of the polypeptide (a). The recombinant polypeptide is encoded by the DNA. The protein comprises the polypeptide.
