WAVEGUIDE OPTICAL MODULATOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently carry out fast modulation with simple control while reducing insertion loss.

SOLUTION: A semi-insulative InGaAsP guide layer 12 and a semi-insulative InP cladding layer 13 are successively laminated on a semi-insulative InP substrate 11. A semi-insulative InP protrusion layer 14 worked in a curved shape is formed on the semi-insulative InP cladding layer 13 and an AuZnNi/Au layer 15 is formed so as to be along with an outer peripheral part of the semi-insulative InP protrusion layer 14.
