PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module which can realize a cost reduction and an improvement in productivity and can at the same time improve hermeticity. SOLUTION: In the optical module 100 in which optical fibers 104 and 106 coated with resins are taken out of optical fiber take-out holes of a holding case 120 housing an optical fiber device, the portions of the optical fibers 104 and 106 near the optical fiber take-out holes are coated with metal and the metal coated areas 104D and 106D of the optical fibers and the optical fiber take-out holes are joined by a metallic joining material 130.
