The structure comprises an essentially U-shaped support profile (10) with a double wall construction and hollow base, and two hollow side walls extending in the vehicle length direction, through which engine coolant fluid and other liquids can flow. These liquids at least partially fill separate regions of the profile which are each provided with one or more valves to prevent a build-up in pressure which could deform the profile. Independent claims are also included for two methods for manufacturing the support profile.
