PURPOSE: A method for outputting an engaged background sound of a mobile phone is provided to allow a user to communicate with the other party while listening to a selected background sound. CONSTITUTION: A controller determines whether a phone call made from the other party is a destined call or an originated call(S302). If the phone call made from the other party is a destined call, the controller determines whether to output a background sound(S304). If the background sound is determined to output, the controller determines whether a phone number of the other party is a phone number which has been stored together with a background sound in a memory(S306). If the phone number of the other party has been stored together with a background sound, the controller selects a background sound stored with the phone number of the other party(S308). The selected background sound is outputted so that the other party listens to it and at the same time the user also listens it(S310). The user communicates with the other party while listening to the background sound(S312).
