<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing system capable of printing on a plurality of kinds of printing media including an envelope, wherein the operation of reverse paper feed printing processing required when the printing medium is an envelope is simplified and the reverse paper feed printing processing is carried out automatically without a hitch. <P>SOLUTION: When a paper name is input to designate the paper (S501) for printing, a paper name table is retrieved (S502) and whether the designated paper requires the reverse paper feed printing processing (that is, an envelope) or not is discriminated (S503). If it is required, a reverse paper feed printing processing command is issued (S504), and if not, a normal printing processing command is issued (S505). In addition, whether thick paper mode fixing is required or not is discriminated (S506). If it is required, a thick sheet mode fixing command is issued (S507), and if not, a normal mode fixing command is issued (S508).
