<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper identification device capable of stably identifying a variety of paper sheets at a low cost. <P>SOLUTION: This paper identification device comprises a light emitting element disposed so as to radiate light to the paper sheet at a specified incident angle, a first light receiving element disposed on the opposite side of the light emitting element at an angular position where there are many regular reflective components from the paper sheet, and a second light receiving element disposed at an angular position where there are many mixed reflective components from the paper sheet. The type of the paper sheet is determined based on the relative comparison of output values from the light receiving elements and the comparison by percentage of output values from the light receiving elements. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
