<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveguide optical device which improves extinction characteristics of a Mach-Zehnder type optical switch using a fluorinated polyimide. <P>SOLUTION: The waveguide optical device has an optical waveguide constituting the Mach-Zehnder type polyimide optical switch and a substrate supporting the optical waveguide, both composed of polyimide, and is characterized by having no polarized light dependence of an optical output. Also the waveguide optical device has the optical waveguide constituting the Mach-Zehnder type optical switch and the cladding part formed with shapes of films composed of polyimide and is characterized by having no polarized light dependence of the optical output. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
