PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide C.I.Pigment Red 185 giving a colored product having excellent glossiness, and to provide a simple method for producing the C.I.Pigment Red 185 in high productivity employing as little organic solvent as possible for the finishing (pigmentation) treatment enabling measures for environmental load and safety to be minimized. SOLUTION: The monoazo pigment is an N-(2,3-dihydro-2-oxo-1H-benzimidazol-5-yl)-3-hydroxy-4-[[2-methoxy-5-methyl-4-[(methylamino)sulfonyl]phenyl]azo]-2-naphthalenecarboxamide pigment with an average aspect ratio of 8.0-16.5. The method for producing the monoazo pigment comprises heating and aging an aqueous slurry containing a coupling product of a precursor of the pigment and water at 100-150°C, where the aqueous slurry is heated and aged at a pH above 12.
