PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily measure uniaxial elongational viscosity of a polymer, based on a measured data provided when fusion tension of the polymer is measured, without using a uniaxial drawing viscometer and without forming preliminarily a test piece of the polymer. SOLUTION: This simple measuring method for the uniaxial elongational viscosity of the polymer has a melting step for bringing the polymer into a melted condition, an extrusion step for extruding the melted polymer at a fixed volume Q (m<SP>3</SP>/s) per unit time from an orifice having diameter of D (m), a step for hauling off the extruded polymer melts at a take-off speed V (m/s), and for measuring the tension f (N) of the polymer melts at a point separated by L (m) from the orifice, and a calculating step for calculating the uniaxial elongational viscosityη(Pa s) based on the Q, D, L, V and f. The tension of the polymer melts is measured and the uniaxial extensional viscosity of the polymer is measured by the simple method, without using an instrument for measuring the uniaxial extensional viscosity separately and without preparing the test piece by molding preliminarily the polymer.
