<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent scorching of the side edges of recording paper caused by frameless printing due to a thermal head. <P>SOLUTION: The line sensor, which is provided on the upstream side of a thermal head, is used to detect the side edges of the recording paper and the heating elements positioned in the vicinity of the side ends of the recording paper are specified on the basis of the positions of those side edges. Image data to be printed is altered to printing data by one line and the thermal head is heated on the basis of the printing data to apply printing to the fed recording paper. At this time, the image data is corrected so as to print the whole of a line image when the image data is an odd number line and also corrected so as not to generate heat from the specified heating elements in the vicinity of the side edges of the recording paper when the image data is an even number line to form the printing data of the respective lines. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
