PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel photocatalyst excellent in photocatalytic activity and its production method. SOLUTION: Particulates of a titanium phosphate compound, preferably particulates of titanium pyrophosphate, are used as the photocatalyst. The average crystalline particle size of the particulates is preferably 3-350 nm. After an ion-exchange resin containing phosphor atoms in its chemical structure is caused to adsorb titanium ions, the resin is heat-treated to give the photocatalyst, which comprises particulates of a titanium phosphate compound attached to a porous carbon material which is a carbide of an ion-exchange resin.
