PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device having a governor having high reliability as a safety device while enabling effective use of a space in a hoistway. SOLUTION: The governor 10 is connected to a car sheave 5 mounted to a riding car 2. The governor 10 detects the running speed of the riding car 2 based on the rotating speed of the car sheave 5. When the running speed of the riding car 2 excessively increases beyond the running speed, an operation of blocking the power of a driving machine 7 or an operation of operating an emergency stopping device is performed.
