An image forming device having in a light source a means of converting the advancing direction of a ray of light emitted from the light source, whereby a direction in which a light source is disposed can be determined without allowing for a direction in which a ray of light is emitted. The image forming device converts the advancing direction of a ray of light emitted from a light emitting element into a direction to permit the above light transmission means to transmit a ray of light to improve brightness on a photosensitive drum. The image forming device condenses light emitted from the light emitting element of which light emitting area has been increased to thereby increase a luminous flux density. The image forming device employs a flat luminous body as a light emitting element, and forms a light transmission means and a light emitting element in one optical piece.
