<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader adopting a transparent platen of substantially zero water absorption and high dielectric breakdown strength and heat-resistant temperature which is suitable for integration into an electronic device such as a cellular telephone. <P>SOLUTION: The image reader comprises the transparent platen on which an object to be read is pressed, a light source for projecting light on the object to be read, a rod lens array for collecting light reflected by the object to be read, and an image sensor for converting the light collected by the rod lens array into an electrical signal.
