PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately obtain the detection signals of a detection sensor by preventing a paper sheet from being fluttered or deflected. SOLUTION: This paper sheets detecting device comprises conveying belts 1 and 2 conveying the paper sheet P along a conveying face H, the detection sensor 12 installed opposite to the conveying face H and detecting the paper sheet P conveyed by the conveying belts 1 and 2, a guide means 3 installed at least on the paper lead-in side of the detection sensor 12 and having upper and lower guide members 5 and 6 disposed opposite to each other through the conveying face H, nozzles 27a and 27b installed at the opposed faces of the upper and lower guide members 5 and 6, and a gas supply means 64 supplying compressed gas to the upper and lower guide members 5 and 6 and injecting the compressed gas between the pair of the guide members 5 and 6.
