849,869. Gas-blast circuit-breakers. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Dec. 2, 1958 [Dec. 10, 1957], No. 38791/58. Class 38 (5). A circuit-breaker has sealed arc-extinguishing units in a further sealed enclosure, the same or a different gas being used in each enclosure at differing pressures. The grounded metal tank 2 contains a low-pressure gas which also fills the spaces 57 in the insulators 45 through a spring-loaded check-valve 52. Higher pressure gas fills the interior of the arc extinguishing units 4, the hollow lead 40 and the chamber 42. A piston 10 forms a stream of the gas through nozzles 14 to extinguish the arc. The axles 30 of the operating members are sealed to the units as disclosed in Specification 710,925 and the bridging contact bar 37 forms an isolating link in its extreme downward position. SeF 6 or SF 6 may be used as well as CO 2 , N 2 , He or A. Current transformers 50 are provided round the grounded shell 47.
