摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultra-lightweight ceramic foam which has a skeleton reinforced with short ceramic fibers and a density of 0.2g/cm<SP>3</SP>or lower and gives a molded article with high strength; and its production method. <P>SOLUTION: Short ceramic fibers are homogeneously dispersed in a nonaqueous solvent by utilizing the reactivity of a metal alkoxide with the surface of the short ceramic fibers. To the resultant dispersion, an aqueous ceramic powder slurry is added to separate the homogeneously dispersed short ceramic fibers from the nonaqueous solvent to transfer the fibers to the aqueous phase, giving an aqueous slurry containing the short ceramic fibers homogeneously dispersed therein. This aqueous slurry is foamed and burned to give the objective ultra-lightweight ceramic foam with excellent properties. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
