PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a film which is excellent in oxygen gas barrier properties in a high-humidity atmosphere, excluding chlorine in structure, in a mild condition compared to conventional method, and to provide a laminated article of the same. SOLUTION: The gas barrier coating material comprises (A) a polyvinyl alcohol and (B) an ethylene/maleic acid copolymer at an (A)/(B) weight ratio of 50/50 to 10/90, and (D) at least a kind of metal compound selected from the group comprising hydroxides, oxides, halides, carbonates, sulfates, nitrates, sulfites and acetates of at least divalent metals selected from the group comprising Mg, Ca, Al, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu, in an amount of 0.05-30% by equivalent based on the carboxy group contained in the copolymer (B).
