PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for carcass cord having low air permeability and excellent adhesivity to a rubber layer and provide a pneumatic tire produced by using the composition as the coating rubber for carcass cord to reduce the weight without lowering the air retention. SOLUTION: The rubber component A of the rubber composition for carcass cord is composed of 100-40 wt.% one or more diene rubbers selected from natural rubber, isoprene rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, butadiene rubber and styrene-isoprene-butadiene rubber and 0-60 wt.% one or more butyl rubbers selected from butyl rubber, a halogenated butyl rubber and a halogenated copolymer of an isomonoolefin and a p-alkylstyrene.
