Escape system in sides of tunnel is separated from main part of tunnel by fireproof walls comprising panels on a support frame

An escape system (4) is fitted on one side or both sides of a tunnel by fireproof panels, e.g. concrete, on a support frame (6) between floor and ceiling. The escape route is accessed by fire doors and is vented by a positive pressure of fresh air. The escape route can be fitted with ducts for water and/or foam and the fire wall is provided with shutters through which firemen can fight fires in the main part of the tunnel. The escape system is fitted onto existing side pavements without undue restriction of the tunnel.
