A foot room channel wall (24b) is located on the outside wall (120b) of a spiral casing (12b) and extends right up to a head room channel extension (24a). This channel wall is separated from the outside wall of the spiral casing by an insulation space (H, H1). The casing (11) for the system includes a spiral casing which contains a fan (12a) and has an air exit opening (12e). The casing contains a first heat exchanger (14) for heating air and a second heat exchanger (13) for cooling air. The first heat exchanger is located downstream from the second heat exchanger and forms an auxiliary channel (17) through which air can flow from the second heat exchanger into the first one. The air channel in the casing includes a mixing chamber (21) for the air from the first heat exchanger and auxiliary channel. A head room channel (24) is used to transport cold air from an open exit opening (21a) in the mixing chamber to a head room inlet (22), from which air is blown into the upper region of the vehicle compartment. A foot room channel (27) is used to transport warm air from an open exit opening (21b) in the mixing chamber to a foot room outlet (27b), from which air is blown into the lower region of the vehicle compartment. The head room channel extends along an outer wall of the spiral casing and includes an extension in a direction away from this wall. The foot room channel has an exit channel (30) for transporting air from the foot room channel and into the head room channel extension.
