PURPOSE: A method and a device for updating a driver program of a peripheral device are provided to update the driver program of the peripheral device without the help of a PC. CONSTITUTION: The first program updater checks that an update driver program and the necessity for updating the driver program are present by connecting to the peripheral device, and updates the driver program by responding to a checking result. The first program updater is selectively connected/disconnected from the peripheral device. The first program updater comprises the first information input part(80), the first information obtaining part(82) obtaining the intrinsic information of the peripheral device and the first version information of the update driver program, the first storage(86) storing the update driver program, a program checker outputting the first control signal by checking that the update driver program is stored in the first storage, an update checker(88) outputting the second control signal by checking the necessity for updating the driver program, and the first output part(90) outputting the update driver program read from the first storage to the peripheral device.
