PURPOSE: An OFDM-based synchronization detector and a detecting method thereof are provided to simplify a structure of hardware by using a shifter instead of a multiplier to perform a quantization process. CONSTITUTION: An OFDM-based synchronization detector includes A 2¬n level quantizer(410), a delay(420), a shifter(440), and a peak detection unit(470). The 2¬n level quantizer(410) quantizes received data samples by a 2¬n level. The delay(420) delays the quantized data samples as much as a predetermined clock. The shifter(440) shifts the output data of the 2¬n level quantizer as an exponent of the output data of the delay. The peak detection unit(470) detects a peak value from the sum of the outputs of the shifter.
