PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having a cleaning device of a sealing system in which damage to a sealing member and toner leakage are reduced. SOLUTION: The apparatus has a cylindrical image carrier 1 which has flanges 1A at each of its pair of sides, and a cleaning device which removes residual toner on the image carrier by a cleaning blade. The cleaning device further has the pair of sealing members that are in contact with the side faces of the corresponding flanges. The areas of the contact of each of the pair of sealing member with the corresponding side face of the flanges are each in the range of 0.5 to 1.8 cm<SP>2</SP>. This achieves the image forming apparatus in which the effect on a rotating operation of a photoreceptor drum and damage to the surfaces of the photoreceptor drum and sealing member after long-time use are reduced, toner leakage are reduced, the structure is simple, and stable quality is ensured.
