<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an update method capable of easily updating an option board without using a special tool. <P>SOLUTION: A printer 1 is equipped with: the option board 30 updatable by recording firmware data; an input interface 20 for selectively introducing print data and the firmware data; and an output destination changeover part OCH for selectively changing over the output destination of the input data introduced into the input interface 20 to either of the option board 30 and a print processing part 11. The changeover part OCH sends, to the option board 30, the firmware data inputted from an update device 2 through the input interface 20, and changes over the output destination to the processing part 11 side when receiving an update completion notification from the option board 30. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
