PURPOSE: A frame synchronization unit for burst mode receiver and a synchronizing method thereof are provided to perform easily a frame synchronization process by using the correlation between a received signal and a preamble. CONSTITUTION: A frame synchronization unit for burst mode receiver includes a correlator(450), a real channel processor(500), an imaginary processor(550), and OR gate(600). The correlator(450) is used for calculating a correlation function between a received signal pattern, and a preamble pattern and outputting a real part as a real channel frame synchronization value and an imaginary part as an imaginary channel frame synchronization value. The real channel processor(500) is used for performing a non-linear process for the real channel frame synchronization value by using a non-linear function, comparing the processed value to a critical value, and outputting the compared result. The imaginary processor(550) is used for performing the non-linear process for the imaginary channel frame synchronization value by using the non-linear function, comparing the processed value to the critical value, and outputting the compared result. The OR gate(600) performs OR operation for an output value of the real channel processor and an output value of the imaginary processor.
