PURPOSE: A method for remotely controlling a digital broadcasting receiver over the communication network is provided to remotely monitor broadcasting receiving conditions of the digital broadcasting receiver, such as an STB(Set Top Box), in a voice through the PSTN(Public Switched Telephone Network) or CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access), and to remotely control operations of the digital broadcasting receiver. CONSTITUTION: A modem receives a call connection request signal(S10). The modem counts ring signals to establish a call(S11). A microcomputer searches key response information stored in a memory to read ARS(Auto Response) voice data, and a voice converter converts the ARS voice data into voice signals and transmits the converted signals through the modem(S12). If a DTMF(Dual Tone Multi Frequency) signal corresponding to key input of a user is detected(S13), the microcomputer searches a key ID corresponding to the DTMF signal from the key response information stored in the memory and reads and checks an action information entry stored in association with the key ID(S14). If audio delivery for a current broadcasting program is requested(S15), the microcomputer controls the voice converter to convert audio signals outputted from an MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) decoder into voice signals and transmits the voice signals through the modem(S16). If selection of a broadcasting channel is requested(S17), the microcomputer controls a tuner and a demux to select the requested channel(S18). If inhibition of broadcasting receiving is requested(S19), the microcomputer forcibly turns off a system(S20). If others are requested(S21), the microcomputer controls each unit to perform corresponding operations(S22). Upon hook-off of the user, the microcomputer suspends the remote operations(S23).
