PAGING METHOD IN MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PROVIDING MULTICAST MULTIMEDIA BROADCAST SERVICE

PURPOSE: A paging method in a mobile communication system providing a multicast multimedia broadcast service is provided to effectively perform a paging on multiple UEs by transmitting PCH(Paging CHannel)-related information through a non-use region of a general PICH and variably setting and transmitting a transmission period and transmission point of the PCH. CONSTITUTION: An RNC(Radio Network Controller) checks whether a PCH transmission period PAGING_INTERVAL and offset information OFFSET for an MBMS service have been received from an SGSN(Serving GPRS Support Node)(701). If the PCH transmission interval and the offset information have been received, the RNC transmits the PCH transmission interval, the offset information and a TMGI(Temporary Multicast Group Identity) to a corresponding UE(703). The RNC sets an MBMS indication as 1 in a data frame structure of a lub frame protocol, sets an MBMS PI bit map and a PICH(Paging Indicator CHannel) duration, and transmits them to a base station(704). The RNC transmits a paging type 1 message to the base station so as for the UE to receive a PCH(705). The RNC checks whether the paging type 1 message has been transmitted the m number of times(706).
