PURPOSE: A method and a system for managing the addresses of a terminal is provided to manage the ARP table of a terminal and to update the ARP table, when an address disappears, so that the terminal can catch the address of a server or another terminal using the ARP table. CONSTITUTION: Each network switch(200a,200b) contains an ARP table to monitor an IP address which can be matched with a MAC address in a MAC table. The MAC table includes terminals and MAC addresses, and the ARP table includes terminals, IP addresses, and MAC addresses. Accordingly, if a node is removed from a port of a network switch, the network switch arranges the MAC table and ARP table of the port. If a node is connected to an idle port, the network switch sends an address request message to the idle port, receives an address response message from a relevant terminal, and stores it in the MAC and ARP tables. Then the network switch transmits the stored ARP table information to the connected terminal and updates the ARP table of the terminal. In case that the first terminal(210a) wants to communicate with the second terminal(210b), the first terminal(210a) extracts the IP address of the second terminal(210b) from its own ARP table. Then the first terminal(210a) executes communication with the second terminal(210b) using the extracted IP address.
