PURPOSE: A photographing apparatus for correcting a position of a lens and a controlling method thereof are provided to correct accurately a position of a zoom lens by detecting position differences at various positions. CONSTITUTION: A photographing apparatus for correcting a position of a lens includes a zoom lens(110), a focus lens(115), a controller(170), and a storage(165). The zoom lens(110) is used for controlling the magnifying power. The focus lens(115) is used for forming a focus corresponding to a position of the zoom lens. The controller(170) outputs a position difference between a practical position value of the zoom lens and a designed value of a manufacturing process. The storage(165) stores the position difference. The controller shifts sequentially the zoom lens and shifts the focus lens according to the position of the zoom lens. In addition, the controller calculates the position difference between a position value of the shifted zoom lens and a position value of the zoom lens corresponding to the movement of the focus lens and outputs different position differences by shifting the zoom lens three or more times.
