A method for noninvasive measuring of transcutaneous oxygen uptake from ambient air, comprising the steps: shielding (2) an area of skin (1) to be examined from air currents to provide a stable boundary layer (6), sensing (4, 5) the partial pressure of the oxygen in at least two different points positioned on at least two different heights from the skin surface (1) within the stable boundary layer (6) outside the skin surface (1), apply the equation (I) where A is the area, m is the amount of oxygen, dp/dx is the gradient for the partial pressure of oxygen and DOL is the diffusion constant for oxygen in air, so that the gradient of the partial pressure of oxygen in the boundary layer (6) is calculated; and an apparatus for performing the method. |
