POSITIVE LOCKING MECHANISM FOR IN-LINE SWITCH

An isolating switch has a main sub-assembly which is hung from an overhead power line prior to opposite ends of the isolating switch being permanently connected to the power line. To retain the sub-assembly on the line prior to the permanent connection being effected two spaced spring loaded keeper bars are provided. Each keeper bar is mounted on a boss which is spaced from another boss to define a groove along which the power line extends. The two bosses for each keeper bar have respective aligned grooves running perpendicularly to the power line. Each keeper bar has two stable positions, a closed position in which the keeper bar lies along the two aligned grooves of the bosses to extend across the wire and an open position in which the keeper bar lies along only the groove of the boss on which the bar is mounted. In this latter position, the keeper bar extends 180.degree. from the first position. The keeper bar may be moved from position to position by engaging an eye in the bar with a hot stick, pulling the keeper bar against a bias spring and rotating the bar about a pivot pin.
