OPTICAL FIBER FOR USE IN WAVELENGTH DIVISION MULTIPLEXER TYPE OPTICAL TRANSMISSION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: An optical fiber for use in a wavelength division multiplexer(WDM) type optical transmission system is provided to supply a very excellent transmission characteristics in the transmission environmental with a 100 GHz channel period. CONSTITUTION: A single mode optical fiber for use in a wavelength division multiplexer(WDM) type optical transmission system is characterized in that the dispersion is 2 ¯ 14 ps/nm/km at a wavelength ranging from 1460 nm to 1625 nm, the dispersion gradient is below 0.073 ps/nm2-km at 1550 nm, the effective cross section is above 60 μm2 in the 1550 nm and the wavelength of the null dispersion is below 1450 nm.
