DIGITAL CAMERA AND METHOD FOR STORING IMAGE DATA OF THE SAME

PURPOSE: A digital camera and a method for storing image data of the same are provided to regulate resolution and compressibility of a stored image for lack of a storage space, so as to reduce the size of the stored image data and additionally store the image data. CONSTITUTION: A pick-up unit(11) picks up an image of a subject to generate image signals. An image signal processor(12) performing predetermined converting and compressing operations for the image signals to generate digital image data compares an available storage space of a storage unit(13) with a required storage space for the image data, if the required storage space is bigger, to automatically change resolution and compressibility suitably for storing the image in the available storage space, wherein change of one or both of the resolution and the compressibility is available. The storage unit(13) stores the digital image data. A setup unit(14) sets the resolution and compressibility that become bases of signal processing in the image signal processor(12). A controller(13) transfers the resolution and compressibility set in the setup unit(14) to the image signal processor(12). A displayer(16) displays the number of images storable in the storage unit(13) and the resolution and compressibility of the image stored in the storage unit(13).
