PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a near-field head assembly in which a high-speed and large- capacity near field is recorded by a method wherein a recording medium is levitated on an air bearing surface via a very small gap, near-field light which exists near the surface of the recording medium is scattered and the near-field light is converted into an electric signal. SOLUTION: Air bearing surfaces are formed on both sides of a slider core 6, and a head slider 11 for near-field detection is installed so as to be close to a recording medium 2 which is turned at high speed. By the dynamic-pressure effect of a gas generated in a wedge-shaped gap which is formed between the medium 2 which is turned at high speed and the air bearing surface, a core 6 at the slider 11 is levitated on the medium 2 by keeping a very small gap. A triangular scattering body is installed at the front of the core 6 at the slider 11, and the scattering body scatters near-field light which is generated, by a laser light source 5, near a part between the surface 2a of the medium 2 and a surface 2b on the opposite side. The scattered near-field light is converted into an electric signal by a photoelectric conversion means so as to be output as the reproducing signal of recorded information in the recording medium 2. |
