PURPOSE: Provided is an apparatus for treating water which sterilizes water fed from a water supply inlet of a water supply system in a building and the like and is able to keep the water quality while keeping the airtightness of a water supply tank and preventing a gas storage problem by electrolysis treatment. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus(1) comprises a treated water passage(100) for returning water to a water tank(2) after treatment, a circulation pump (P1) for circulating the water through the treated water passage to the water tank, an electrolysis means(11) for electrolyzing the water passing through the treated water passage, an automatic gas valve(13) having an outlet for gas generated by the electrolysis of the water and automatically discharging the gas through the treated water passage and a control means operating each parts and including a gas discharge promoting control part for promoting the gas flow-in the automatic gas discharge valve by temporarily stopping the electrolysis and the circulation of the water.
