PURPOSE: A method for assigning a transmission antenna in a wireless communication system is provided to estimate a state of a wireless channel corresponding to an antenna based on an ARQ(Automatic Repeat Request) signal, and to select an antenna corresponding to an excellent wireless channel, thereby transmitting a signal through a better channel. CONSTITUTION: A transmitter of a wireless communication system selects either of more than two antennas, and transmits data. The transmitter switches plural antennas according to contents of response information of a receiver related to retransmission of the data, and selects one antenna. The transmitter transmits the data through the selected antenna. The response information of the receiver is a reception confirming signal of a physical layer. If the response information of the receiver shows a non-receiving state, the transmitter selects another antenna except the selected antenna. The transmitted data is retransmitted.
