PURPOSE: A cellular phone having a melody play function is provided to play a melody by building a melody chip therein, and to record the played melody as a receiving sound, thereby enabling a user to individually use a melody as a receiving sound. CONSTITUTION: A key input unit(20) consists of number keys for dialing telephone numbers and functional keys. A CPU(10) recognizes a key pressed from the key input unit(20), and generates a melody selection control signal for distinguishing a key signal. A melody chip(90) generates various melody frequencies by the melody selection control signal of the CPU(10). A filtering unit(100) filters the melody frequencies, converts the filtered frequencies to have tone colors, and outputs the converted melody tone colors. An amplifier(110) amplifies the melody tone colors outputted from the filtering unit(100) at predetermined level, and delivers the amplified melody tone colors through a speaker(SP).
