The parasol or umbrella has a tubular shaft with upper (2) and lower (3) sections. The upper section can be set at an oblique angle to the lower one by means of a coil spring (1) e.g. of steel, connecting the two shaft sections and bent to give the upper section a given angle of inclination. To set the upper section of the shaft in an upright position a rigid sleeve (5) is slid over it to cover the ends of both shaft sections. When the sleeve is in its raised position the spring is covered by a flexible bellows element (6). Variants of the desihgn can have a flexible rod in place of the spring and a fastening clasp to hold the upper shaft section in an inclined position.
