The key has a cylindrical body (3) and a number of lengthwise fins (4) extending in a series of planes that are parallel to one another and to the axis of the key body. It also has at least two additional fins (8, 9) in up to two planes perpendicular to the parallel fins (4), one of which is a polarising bit, and the key code is provided by notches in the fins. The lock barrel has a series of slots corresponding to the key's fins.
