The adjusting device (38) regulates restoring force operating on an accelerator pedal (2) based on operating conditions of a motor vehicle. The restoring force subjected to the pedal is opposite to a force actuated by a driver on the pedal. The restoring force is increased if a maximum acceptable speed at that instant on a traversed road is reached or exceeded.
