Dismantling of nuclear reactor containment vessel involves machining it to coherent cuttings from top to bottom, compressing cuttings and storing them in drums

From top to bottom of the vessel, it is submitted to a machining (1) operation, to form cuttings which hang or cling to each other. These are recovered progressively during the operation and sent to a treatment facility for compaction. The compacted cuttings are removed for storage in drums. An Independent claim is included for a corresponding plant to carry out the above process.
