System (10) for removal of targeted pollutants, such as oxides of sulfur, oxides of nitrogen, mercury compounds and ash, from combustion and other industrial process gases and processes utilizing the system (10). Regenerable, water-soluble metal oxides that produce soluble and/or thermally decomposable reaction products when reacted with target polluants are utilized as the primary sorbent in the system (10) for removal or capture of polluants. The metal oxides are introduced from feeders (20) into reaction zones (30, 38) of the system (10) where they are contacted with a gas (15) from which polluants are to be removed. |
