The invention relates to an improved method for producing levosalbutamol or the pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof on an industrial scale by usi ng asymmetric hydration as a key step and, optionally, a special sequence of successive steps, rhodium being used as a catalyst while a chiral, ambident phosphine ligand such as (2R, 4R)-4-(dicyclohexylphosphino)-2-(diphenyl- phosphino-methyl)-N-methyl-aminocarbonyl-pyrrolidine is used as a catalyst system.
