The present invention provides methods and formulations for the treatment an d prevention of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases and disorders. The present invention is based, at least in part, on the discovery that administering to a subject a formulation comprising an agonist of endothelia l nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), such as an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, and a formulation comprising a precursor of NO, such to as L-arginine, may be used to treat or prevent cerebrovascular and/or cardiovascular diseases or disorders.
