The modular system for the construction of dome roof for observatories comprises an outer dome (1) as a spherically curved hollow component, and an inner shell (2) at least partially enclosed by the outer dome. The outer dome is rotatable or slidable in relation to the inner shell for the setting of a desired opening angle of the observation opening (6). The opening angle extends between the respective lower planes of section (1.1,2.1) of the outer dome and inner shell. For the panning of the roof the outer dome and inner shell are mounted to be rotatable together around a second vertical axis (4).
