The cut green crop taken from a field through conveyors (3,4) is subjected to thermal treatment such that the cell walls in the crop are broken. The green crop is thrown back on the field (F) and made to stay on the field for a drying period. The green crop is centrally collected after the drying period. An independent claim is also included for thermally treating apparatus for cut green crop.
