The counterweight frame (2) comprises a rectangular grid containing at least four vertical supports (3a, 3b) distributed over its width and at least three horizontal yokes (4a-4c). These supports and yokes combine to form grid openings in which weights (6) can be mounted. The counterweight frame is secured to the lift cabin via cables (32) and is moved along guide rails (8) when the lift cabin travels up and down.
