Switching transformer, especially electronic ballast for a DC discharge bulb, whereby a direct current voltage is applied at the input to the switching transformer. The switching transformer has a control unit with two transistors opposed to each other and freely switched so that an AC voltage is applied to the secondary winding of a transformer. The transistors used are field effect transistors (15, 16). The invention also relates to a corresponding discharge bulb.
